The Challenge of Being Prepared

red alert The densely-populated San Francisco Bay area is well-known to be prone to strong earthquakes.

When the Loma Prieta earthquake struck the region on October 17, 1989, its damage was moderate compared to that of a true urban earthquake, such as the 1995 event in Kobe, which killed over 5,000 people, or the more recent tragedies in Turkey and Taiwan.

The logical question arises: What technical resources are currently operational that can help emergency response teams to mitigate the damage caused by the next “Big One”?
