What's RED?

What Does "RED" Actually Mean?

RED-cube installationInitially, the name RED was choosen as an acronym for
R
obust Emergency Datalink
.
But of course, it can also be read as "Reliable Earthquake Detector" or "Reporting Extraordinary Disasters."

Because it is based on a highly-sophisticated digital approach to radio technology, the data link performs close to the physical limits-similar to the telemetric systems used in deep-space missions. Under the name SkyLINK, this technique has proven its excellence in different early warning systems for radioactivity since 1997.

Parallel to its seismic application, the link can be used to carry other kinds of alert messages, indicating landslides, wildfire, flood, tsunami, etc.
