General Issues > Early Warning

How Does Previous Experience Affect the RED System‘s Design Goals?

Previous experience has taught us that at least some of today´s seismic early warning systems may suffer from their enormous complexity or insufficient redundancy—the latter often being the result of budget constraints. Combined with the rare chances to test such systems with real strong-motion input (fortunately), advancing the status-quo of classical concepts is an extremely tough and time-consuming procedure.

Inherent to the new concept—i.e. employing an extremely dense grid of compact and robust sensors—are several clear-cut advantages related to the reliability of seismic early warning. Consequently, the front-end unit of the RED System is designed to exhibit this valuable feature right from the start.
