Ecology

The authors are well aware that the proposal to use primary cells could be misunderstood as wasting resources. And it does not look environmentally friendly. We cannot really object. Instead, we dare to ask:

  • Would throwing away the worn-out lead acid cells (containing at least half a pound of heavy metal) be better for the environment?
  • Would it really matter if just a few thousand safeguard instruments were powered by primary cells, while at the same time millions of identical cells are wasted in flashlights, getto blasters, RC beach buggies, and other gadgets, just for fun?
