General Issues > Time Stamps What is required? Seismic data must always be acquired with very high precision in absolute timing. Ideally, there should be no error larger than 1 ms on the UTC time scale. A standard approach for guaranteeing this precision would involve employing a GPS-based real time clock in every front-end unit. This would be a great solution—except for the price. Obviously, achieving the timing precision required for several thousand seismic sensors in the RED System‘s Network can be a costly affair, a matter mainly dependent on the means of implementation used.
