General Issues > Early Warning Early Warning Millions and millions of dollars have been invested in different systems for seismic early warning in several regions of the globe. There is little doubt that an early warning capability would be one of the most desirable additional features of any seismic network—if it really worked. The success of early warning systems so far has been mixed. During the Kobe earthquake, the railway´s early warning system did not perform as expected. And in other locations, like Mexico City, false alarms have been given. Therefore, prudent specialists in the field are still wary of early warning.
